9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - “Social Inflation and You”

Speaker: Claudia Rodriguez, Retired Vice President of Insurance Claims at Auto Club Enterprises

Description: In the post COVID environment, auto physical damage challenges such as supply chain, labor costs, and catalytic converters have captured most of the headlines. Given their impact on loss costs and the immediate influence felt by the claims' customer, it comes as no surprise that those topics would grab everyone’s attention. If there is anything “good” about auto physical damage trends, it is that they are more easily measured and understood because they are tied to economic inflation. The opposite is true about the arguably more complicated casualty/liability universe. To begin to solve any problem, we must first understand it. Social inflation in insurance is not new, but the components of the issue have evolved over time, they are more complicated, and they are having an increasingly adverse impact on liability loss ratios. The challenge for the industry is that social inflation is difficult to measure, yet it is critical to understand. During this session, Claudia Rodriguez will educate us on the components of social inflation along with outlining the steps that both carriers and the industry can take to try to combat these issues and mitigate its influence on our results.

Description: We are currently faced with a claims environment that is more challenging than ever before. You will hear in this discussion about plaintiff’s tools of the trade including AI generated demands, broad networks, marketing and social media. These tools are resulting in earlier attorney involvement, increased specials, and difficulty settling cases. Marketing employed by plaintiff firms is designed to not only search for clients, but they have an intent to condition future jury pools.   Join us as we offer strategies on navigating through this challenging time in our industry.
